Aldi has found a way to cure my craving for girl scout cookies anytime of the year. These sweet peanut butter filled cookies are a great stand in for Girl Scout’s Tagalongs. They come in a pack of 18 and are less than $1!

Cost: $0.95 (per box)

Compared to Tagalongs

The Aldi Benton’s cookies have more peanut butter than Tagalongs but without trying them side by side you might not even notice. There’s not much else to say. Other than the filling these taste identical and are significantly cheaper. My local girl scout troops were selling them for $5 a box this past year (2018), which is pretty pricey considering how fast we gobble them up.

Aldi’s peanut butter cups are a rich snack that can definitely cure your sweet tooth. The peanut butter filling is creamy and sweet and has a good ratio of chocolate to peanut butter. The size of each cup is almost identical to the miniature Reese’s Cups. They come in a resealable bag and are not individually wrapped. My store only sells them in the miniature version that comes in a 12oz bag and they’re found as soon as you walk in the door near the other candy.

Compared to Reese’s Cups

The Aldi choceur’s peanut butter filling is much creamier and tastes more like sweetened peanut butter, whereas Reese’s cups are a little dryer with a bit more texture. I’m not sure if the texture comes from the cups being more mass produced and therefor more processed or if it’s intentional. I also feel like the chocolate to peanut butter ratio is different. There appears to be more peanut butter in the Aldi peanut butter cups than in Reese’s. The other main difference is that Aldi does not individually wrap each cup, which is not a big deal and might be bad thing for your diet since these are easy to grab and eat as you walk by. Overall do not expect a Reese’s cup replica, just think of it as a chocolate peanut butter snack and you will be happy.

Aldi’s popcorn is an organic simple bagged popcorn. It has a good crunch and even dusting of salt.

Cost: $1.99

SkinnyPop

Compared to SkinnyPop this is one of those where you cannot tell a difference – it tasted exactly the same. With such a simple product with few ingredients it’s very easy to replicate the taste.

Cost: $2.99

Alternative Option

It’s very easy to make your own and buying the popcorn kernels is much cheaper.

If you have never made homemade stove top popcorn, I recommend using the whrily pop just add oil/fat (we use Aldi’s Coconut oil) and the kernels. When it’s complete just sprinkle some fine table salt (the smaller grained salts seem to stick better to the corn than larger salt like sea salt or kosher).

At my local store this flavored sparkling water comes in Lemon, Lime and Grapefruit flavors. It cost $1.99 for an 8 pack. It contains no sugar or sodium and just a hit of natural flavor. The ingredients listed are simply carbonated water and natural flavors.

Cost per can: $0.24

LaCroix

LaCroix is the drink that everyone is most familiar with and it comes in a wide variety of flavors, including the same three that Aldi sells. This regularly sells for $3.99 for an 8 pack and you can typically find sales with it costing $2.99.

Cost per can: $0.37 – $0.50

Taste

For me, I cannot tell a difference in taste. This is a no-brainer, buy the Aldi brand if you like LaCroix and you will not be disappointed. Only buy LaCroix if you want more flavor options.
